Summary:
Assignment: select one or more items from Thinkfinity.com and use them as supplementary resources to develop an instructional unit that consists of a minimum of 2 lessons. You may choose to have lessons that are part of one unit or two separate units. The purpose of this project was to practice working with Thinkfinity.org. In addition, the interative and technology-based samples from Thinkfinity.org should result in increased student enjoyment and engagement which should result in the students gaining more from each individual lesson than they might otherwise the standard paper and pencil lesson.
The activities I chose included a Martin Luther King Jr. activity as well as an exciting and interactive rhyming activity from an old favorite "Down by the Bay."
Check out my lesson plans!
The lessons I chose were an incorporation of the suggested lessons listed on Thinkfinity.org's links and what would be necessary to have those lessons link and meet the requirements of the Delaware State Content Standards. Thinkfinity.org is an awesome website because not only does it allow me to locate lessons by subject, it also allows me to locate them by grade level. I have taught grade levels Kindergarten through grade 12 and Thinkfinity has lessons for all of those grade levels. This time around I chose to go with elementary lessons but in the near future I will be using these for my high school science classes.
A little bit about Thinkfinity.org
Thinkfinity allows educators to enhance their classroom insntruction with lesson plans, interactive activities, and online resource. Thinkfinity.org offers over 55,000 standards-based K-12 lesson plans, student materials, interactive tools, and reference materials. All materials listed on the website have been reviewed by leading education organizations in order that the material is unbiased, appropriate for student use, up-to-date, and accurate.
This activity encouraged and required me to spend time reviewing all that Thinkfinity.org has to offer. I found the site to be incredibly useful and accurate. There was a wide variety of lessons to choose from. Based on my K-12 background I found this very helpful. In addition, the interactive nature of the resources will prove to be helpful in my current job as a Special Education teacher. I am always looking for audio and visual material to assist my students. This site offers both. I am sure that in the very near future I will be using this site to help enhance my Biology and Physical Science lessons.
